A cruise ship carrying more than 100 passengers and crew experiencing symptoms of norovirus docked at Port Canaveral on Monday. A federal health investigation is currently underway.
Reports of illness, including vomiting and diarrhea, first emerged on May 7, just days before the vessel was scheduled to arrive at port.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now investigating the outbreak onboard the ship. Princess Cruises said it has stepped up sanitation and cleaning protocols, isolated affected passengers and crew members, and plans to carry out a deep cleaning of the vessel before its next departure.
Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that commonly spreads in close quarters such as cruise ships, causing gastrointestinal illness.
