Former NFL DE Aldon Smith Passes Away At Age 36

Former NFL defensive lineman Aldon Smith has died at the age of 36. The team announced his passing on Saturday but did not disclose a cause of death.

Smith played six seasons in the NFL with the 49ers, Oakland Raiders, and Dallas Cowboys. He was selected seventh overall by San Francisco in the 2011 NFL Draft and quickly emerged as one of the league's most dominant pass rushers, earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors during his career.

In a statement, the 49ers said: "We are devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Aldon Smith. Aldon's undeniable talent and sheer dominance on the field were on display from the moment he joined our organization. Beyond his excellence as a player, Aldon will be remembered for his infectious smile that lit up every room he walked into."

Smith helped lead the 49ers to three consecutive NFC Championship Games and remains one of the most talented defensive players in franchise history.
