Kenyan President William Ruto Dismisses Majority of Cabinet Amidst Unrest

Kenyan President William Ruto made a significant move on Thursday by dismissing almost his entire cabinet, with the exception of the Prime Minister and Deputy President, following weeks of widespread anti-government demonstrations.

The protests, predominantly led by youth, erupted in response to efforts to pass a contentious tax bill. The unrest escalated into violent clashes with law enforcement, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 39 individuals.

In response to the escalating crisis, President Ruto opted to completely withdraw the controversial Tax Bill at the end of June, acknowledging the severity of the public outcry and the tragic loss of lives during the demonstrations.

“I will immediately begin extensive consultations across various sectors and political affiliations, aiming to establish a more inclusive government,” Ruto declared, emphasizing his commitment to fostering a broader-based leadership approach.
