Three adults were killed Monday in a shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, in what authorities are investigating as a possible hate crime. The two suspected shooters aged 17 and 18 were later found dead inside a vehicle several blocks away from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds, police said.
Officials said the attack is being investigated as a potential hate crime after investigators discovered alleged hate-related rhetoric connected to the suspects. One of the victims was reportedly a security guard who police say may have helped prevent the shooting from becoming even more deadly.
The mosque’s imam said all students and staff at the center were safely evacuated and confirmed the facility would remain closed for the rest of the day. Authorities have not yet publicly identified either the victims or the suspects.
