Americans Diagnosed With Ebola Will Be Treated in Europe, Not the U.S.

If Americans contract Ebola and require advanced medical treatment, they will be transported to Europe rather than the United States, senior administration officials said Thursday.

The policy is the latest step by the Trump administration aimed at preventing Ebola cases from entering the U.S. amid the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Officials have also established a quarantine facility in Kenya for Americans who may have been exposed to the virus. The facility, which is expected to open Friday, will have 50 quarantine beds.

During a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Marco Rubio said the administration would not allow Ebola cases into the country. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has barred entry for non-U.S. citizens who have been in Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan within the past 21 days.
