Greece and Israel Strike Multi-Billion-Dollar Weapons Agreement
Israel and Greece have signed a €3 billion (about $3.5 billion) defense deal, the largest military agreement between the two countries. The agreement, known as “Achilles Shield,” includes a multilayered air-defense system for Greece that will use Israeli-developed technology.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the two countries share strategic interests and face similar security challenges in the region. The deal comes as Israel’s defense exports continue to grow and Greece works to modernize its military.
Israel and Greece have strengthened their defense relationship over the past decade, with the two countries conducting joint military exercises and expanding security cooperation. The new agreement represents a major step in that partnership as Greece seeks to strengthen its defenses and maintain a military edge in the region.
