In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Ismail Haniyeh, a prominent leader of Hamas, was killed in an alleged Israeli airstrike in Iran on Wednesday morning. The attack occurred shortly after Haniyeh attended the inauguration of Iran's new president in Tehran. This strike follows Israel's recent targeting of a senior Hezbollah commander in Beirut, an ally of Iran.
In response to the airstrike, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei condemned the act, stating that Israel has set the stage for severe retaliation. Khamenei emphasized that the killing of Haniyeh in the Iranian capital has obligated Tehran to seek vengeance.
