Israel Strikes Beirut In Retaliation To Hezbollah Missile Attack
Israel launched airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs on Sunday after a missile and drone attack by Hezbollah targeted northern Israel.
The strike marked the first attack on the Lebanese capital since a U.S.-brokered ceasefire between the two sides was renewed last week. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the operation targeted the Dahieh district of Beirut in response to Hezbollah's earlier assault.
Hezbollah later confirmed that it had carried out an overnight drone attack against Israeli forces. The group, which operates independently of the Lebanese Armed Forces, said the strike was directed at Israeli military targets, according to Lebanon's state-run National News Agency.
