U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer Announces Resignation
Keir Starmer resigned as Britain's prime minister on Monday following weeks of political turmoil, paving the way for the country to have its seventh leader in the past decade.
Starmer came under mounting pressure from members of his own party after Labour suffered major losses in May's local elections, including losing control of the Welsh Parliament.
He said he will remain in office in a caretaker role until a new leader is selected, a process he expects to be completed before Parliament reconvenes in September. Andy Burnham, the former mayor of Greater Manchester, is widely seen as the frontrunner to succeed him in the coming weeks.
