Kim Jong Un recently inspected the production of newly developed artillery systems capable of striking targets more than 60 kilometers (37 miles) away, according to state media. The weapons are expected to be positioned near the border with South Korea, enhancing North Korea’s ability to target Seoul and other nearby regions.
The development comes days after South Korea announced that North Korea had revised its constitution to eliminate all references to Korean reunification, signaling Kim’s continued effort to formally end ties with the South and promote a two-state system on the Korean Peninsula.
For decades, North Korea has continued expanding its military capabilities, including the development of long-range ballistic missiles believed to be capable of carrying nuclear weapons and potentially reaching the U.S. mainland.
